Our offer of Early Help

Early help is about providing support to potentially vulnerable children, young people and their families as soon as difficulties begin to emerge or when there is a strong likelihood that support will be needed in the future. The school can make a referral to the Early Help Partnership and also has the support of an allocated Early Help Coordinator.

What is Early Help?

Early Help is the term used to refer to support that is offered to children, young people and families when needs emerge, or to reduce/prevent problems developing in the future. The support can be offered at any time throughout the child or young person's; this can be from the point of conception through to the teenage years, to help things get better or reduce the need for statutory interventions.

Early Help is a way of thinking and working through a collaborative partnership approach between services, families and communities. It is all of our responsibilities to listen to the needs of our families and communities to work together to ensure they get the right support at the right time.

Further information on Gloucestershire County Council's approach to Early Help can be found here - https://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/education-and-learning/graduated-pathway-practice-guidance/parentscarers-and-young-people/parentscarers-and-young-people-do-you-need-support/.

What do I do if I think I need some help?

Schools are able to put a referral in to the Gloucestershire Early Help service.  Please contact the Headteacher who is able to complete the relevant paperwork.

Please note that demand for the service is high and as such there is a waiting list.  This list is not controlled by the school and as such the school has no influence over any waiting time.

I need some help quickly

Depending on the support you need, the school is able to make the following referrals:

  • Access to Stroud Foodbank via electronic emergency vouchers
  • Support services via Stroud Women's Refuge
  • Access to a Community Social Worker
  • Referral to Gloucestershire Children and Families Services for more specialist support

Please talk to the Headteacher, who will be very happy to help.
